The shades are a race of living shadows created by Charnack, the god of
darkness and chaos. They can easily be mistaken for the undead beings known
as shadows, and since both are usually hostile it makes little difference
which ones you are facing. A shade appears as a featureless shadow of humanoid
shape, barely material yet quite able to wear armour and wield weapons.
