This help describes the random highbie equipment system. Killing any high-level monsters of the 'eq' type (you can use the consider or improved consider skills to check if you are unsure whether a monster is of that type) can yield one or more random items. These items can be either divine orbs or wearable equipment or weapons. A monster may potentially drop as many orbs as there are members in the killer's party and one wearable item or a weapon. Divine orbs ----------- Each orb has three properties: owner, power and ability. All of these can be seen just by looking at an orb. Only the owner, the player to whom the orb has been signed to, can use the orb. The power of an orb is somewhat randomized, but the potential maximum depends on the level of the monster dropping it. The approximate power of an orb is described using the same adjectives as normal eqs (see 'help eq adjectives'). The ability of an orb can be almost any kind of stat, regen, resist, skill or spell. Each orb is pre-signed to one player. Equipment --------- The random equipment monsters may drop can be for any single slot available for human race (any race specific slots, such as wings or tail, are excluded). The equipment can be of various materials that have some effect on the weight and ac of the item. Also the type of the item (there are several available for each slot, such as helmet, hat and crown for the head slot) affects the weight of the item. Each item has a certain (predetermined) number of slots available where divine orbs can be placed. Each orb will add its ability (as indicated by its power) to the item. Only one orb of any given ability can be attached (for example, once you attach an orb with sp regen, no other orb with sp regen can be attached to that item). Weapons ------- Random highbie weapons function mostly like other wearable random highbie items. The big difference is that a weapon must first be upgraded to its full power, and only after that can bonus stats/regens/etc. be added to it. Plenty of divine orbs need to be used for the upgrading process. The abilities or power levels of these orbs make no difference, so it is advisable to use orbs you do not wish to use for anything else. Once a weapon is fully upgraded, it will gain a unique name and a number of orb slots that function just as the slots of other wearable items. The random weapons can be of any type (ancient, axe, bludgeon, dagger, polearm, staff, sword) and can have almost any magical damage type (for example fire or acid). All random highbie equipment have the potential to become some of the most powerful items in the game, but this will take a lot of work, and the best items for every slot can still be acquired specifically from certain monsters.
